About Dr. Leven

Dante Leven, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon practicing Total Orthopedics Spine and Sports Medicine in Englewood and Jersey City, New Jersey, and the Castleton Corners area of Staten Island in New York City. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery, disc replacement, cervical spine surgery trauma, and spinal deformity. 

Dr. Leven earned his Bachelor of Science in physical therapy from the University of Vermont in Burlington and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. 

Afterward, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the State University of New York, Downstate in Brooklyn, and his spine surgery fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. He has trained with several of the leading spinal deformity and cervical spine surgeons in the country and continues to teach residents and fellows on minimally invasive surgery and surgical approaches.

He has over 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals on the topics of spinal deformity, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, spinal cord injuries, and cervical spine surgery. Dr. Leven has also written multiple book chapters and presented over 25 studies and over 75 posters at international conferences.

Dr. Leven is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, and the Lumbar Spine Research Society. He is currently an associate professor with the orthopedic surgery residency program at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. 

Prior to pursuing medical training, he was a physical therapist for 10 years and worked extensively with patients suffering from chronic pain, scoliosis, neuromuscular disorders, traumatic injuries, and disability. Dr. Leven completed his training with the goal of maximizing his ability to help patients before, during, and after surgery with a comprehensive treatment approach. His compassion for patients comes from hours of working with patients to improve their quality of life, and he makes every effort to offer the best surgical option with the least invasive approach.

Dr. Leven holds hospital appointments at Mount Sinai Hospital, Lenox Hill, Nassau University Medical Center, Valley Stream, and Beth Israel Hospital. He is a member of the North American Spine Society, Lumbar Spine Research Society, American Academy of Orthopaedics Surgeons, and American Medical Association.
